A 57-year-old Oregon dad, Michael Meyden, faces charges for drugging his daughter’s 12-year-old friends with spiked smoothies during a sleepover. According to the police, Meyden surrendered at the Clackamas County Jail. This was after a grand jury indicted him on multiple charges related to an August 26, 2023, incident.
Allegedly, he observed the children drifting off to sleep after taking the laced beverages, as reported by the Lake Oswego police in a recent news release. In August 2023, police went to a hospital after three 12-year-old girls tested positive for benzodiazepine, a sedative that induces hypnosis.
According to a probable cause affidavit reported by FOX TV Stations, the girls informed officers that they had attended a sleepover at a friend’s house the previous night. During the sleepover, their friend’s father prepared mango smoothies and “insisted they drink them.”
Activities such as watching movies and doing facials in the basement occurred before Meyden allegedly pressured the girls into consuming the spiked smoothies. The girls said the smoothies contained “tiny white chunks throughout and sprinkled on top.”

Despite one girl’s initial attempt to refuse the beverage, Meyden allegedly insisted she try it. She recounted taking a few sips but not consuming much of the smoothie. Meyden reportedly monitored their consumption and became upset when he noticed the girls sharing drinks.
He mentioned giving each girl a differently colored reusable straw, insisting they drink only from their assigned cups. One of the girls informed the police that she was being “woozy, hot, and clumsy” shortly after consuming the smoothies.
She further described falling over, blacking out, and entering a “thick, deep sleep.” Contrarily, another girl managed to stay awake and expressed a heightened awareness of Meyden’s presence. According to the document, she believed Meyden was conducting tests to ensure they remained asleep.
Allegedly, Meyden inserted his finger under a girl’s nose and moved another girl’s arm and body on the bed. This was during his repeated visits to the basement where the girls slept. Fearing for her safety, the girl awakened during the events and texted her mother.

Her text read, “Mom, please pick me up and say I had a family emergency. I don’t feel safe. I might not respond, but please come get me (crying emoji).” According to the affidavit, the girl later contacted a family friend who picked her up.
The family friend then woke up the girl’s parents, who also informed the other girl’s parents. By 3 a.m., the other girls’ parents arrived at Meyden’s house to retrieve their daughters. Surprisingly, Meyden resisted and requested them to return in the morning. However, the parents insisted on taking their children home immediately, rejecting Meyden’s suggestion.
Meyden pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment and posted a $50,000 bail. However, court records reveal that Meyden and his wife finalized their divorce on October 17, less than two months after the incident.
