On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, Donald Trump issued a direct statement on Truth Social targetting Nikki Haley and her donors. He noted, “Anybody that makes a ‘contribution’ to Birdbrain, from this moment forth, will be permanently barred from the MAGA camp.”
Following his dominant performance in the first two Republican contests, Trump attempts to snuff out his rival’s campaign. He denounces Nikki Haley as an “imposter” with inadequate support within the party’s base.
On Wednesday night, Trump intensified his efforts by cutting off the funding crucial for Nikki Haley’s campaign. The former president tried to cut off her campaign to advance to the following primary in her home state, South Carolina, in late February.
However, Nikki Haley turned the attack into a campaign merchandise opportunity within 24 hours. On Thursday, January 25, 2024, Haley responded on X (formerly Twitter), “Enough said…Grab your shirt here!”

“Donald Trump said if you support me, he will permanently bar you from the MAGA camp. I will not be intimidated,” she continued. “Chip in $5 to get your “BARRED PERMANENTLY” t-shirt and show him YOU won’t be either.”
In a subsequent statement on X, Nikki Haley responded to Trump’s claim, stating, “Trump says I’m not conservative. That makes me laugh.” She added, “I am a Tea Party governor. I took on the establishment in South Carolina. That’s why they didn’t like me very much. But I don’t care if the swamp likes me. I’m fighting for YOU.”
After Trump’s initial warning to oust Haley’s supporters from his club, a noteworthy response came up. One of his former staffers, Sarah Matthews, donated to Nikki Haley’s campaign. Additionally, she posted “Done” on X and added a link encouraging others to contribute to @NikkiHaley’s campaign.
Notably, Sarah Matthews left the Trump administration after the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Trump’s threat to bar supports from contributing to Haley’s campaign poses issues for the billionaires backing her.
This is especially true after her setbacks in Iowa and New Hampshire. Ken Langone, Home Depot co-founder, previously stated that he was accessing Haley’s performance before committing a “major gift” to her campaign.

Similarly, according to sources, Reid Hoffman, the billionaire co-founder of LinkedIn, has reportedly ceased funding. Moreover, Hoffman’s adviser, anti-Trump strategist Dmitri Mehlhorn, expressed reservations about further financial support.
He said, “To raise more money for Governor Haley, I’d have to see a path for her to win the primary. That was plausible if she won New Hampshire, but I don’t see it now.” Haley’s foreign policy stances, approach to abortion, and potential to win Trump attract support from several donors.
This includes JPMorgan chief Jamie Dimon, a Democrat who has the support of Americans for Prosperity Action, founded by billionaire Charles Koch. Stanley Druckenmiller, Cliff Asness, Ken Langone, and Henry Kravis are set to co-host a fundraiser for Nikki Haley in New York.
