The Princess of Wales met 8-year-old Mila Sneddon amid her cancer journey in May 2021. Years later, the 8-year-old former cancer patient is sharing a heartfelt message with Kate Middleton amid the royal’s diagnosis with the disease.
Mila Sneddon, who previously met and developed a relationship with the Princess of Wales while diagnosed with leukemia in 2021, voiced her support for the royal after she announced she had cancer.
“She will be brave because I was, and she will fight it like I did,” Mila said. “Kate Middleton is a mom, a wife; she is young, beautiful, and athletic,” the young girl’s mother, Lynda Sneddon, said. “She is facing this. It shows cancer doesn’t discriminate; it can affect anyone at any time. We wish her a peaceful and speedy recovery.”
The First Time Kate Middleton Met Mila
Kate Middleton asked to meet Mila in 2021 after seeing a photo of the sick girl looking at her father, Scott, through a window while receiving chemotherapy during the COVID-19 lockdown. The royal included the image in her photo book Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020.
Their first touching meeting happened at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. According to the girl’s request, Middleton wore Mila’s favorite color, pink, and had a butler serve cereal when Mila said she was hungry.

They met again in 2021 at Middleton’s annual Westminster Abbey Christmas Carol Service, where Mila was invited to read a prayer.
Lynda Supports Kate Middleton
In a post shared on X, Lynda supported Kate Middleton. “We extend our love, support, and well wishes to William, George, Charlotte, and Louis,” she wrote. “We also wish Catherine a peaceful speedy recovery #YouAreNotAlone.”
Alongside her message, Lynda posted a photo of her daughter speaking with Middleton during their first meeting in May 2021 at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Middleton and Mila developed a friendship after the child participated in the royal’s Hold Still photography project in 2020. At the time, she was seen in a photo separated from her family while undergoing chemotherapy amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
What Was Mila Diagnosed With?
Mila was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age four. She was reportedly declared cancer-free two years ago. “Middleton’s statement came out on Mila’s second anniversary in remission,” Lynda said. “Mila turned to me and told me she wanted to make and send Middleton a card. So Mila will make contact in her private way.
How Kate Middleton Supported Mila
Kate Middleton showed Mila such compassion, care, and support both during and post-treatment, so it’s been very emotional to see she is now facing her health struggles.
During her cancer treatment, Mila and the Princess of Wales kept in contact by phone. In December 2021, she participated in the Christmas carol concert hosted by Middleton at Westminster Abbey.

Middleton Shared Her Cancer Diagnosis
In her video message, Middleton shared that she received her cancer diagnosis following post-operative tests after her January abdominal surgery. She is now undergoing treatment.
Middleton shared the news of her diagnosis in an emotional video posted to Kensington Palace’s social media accounts. She explained that doctors had found the presence of cancer after she underwent abdominal surgery in January.
“The surgery was successful; however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present,” she said. “My medical team, therefore, advised that I should undergo a course of prophylactic chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
Middleton concluded the message by showing her support for others impacted by cancer. “At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
“Cancer is a club no one wants to be in,” Lynda added. We are very sad to hear she has joined the club, but we are completely behind her, and we wish her the very best. We have nothing but admiration for her for being able to come out and publicly tell her story.”
