Did you know that JD Vance was supposed to be on stage with Donald Trump when he escaped the assassination? The republican vice presidential hopeful gave this revelation during his much-talked-about interview with podcaster Joe Rogan. Vance also disclosed his reaction when he heard the news of the attack.
James David Vance sat and discussed with Rogan, the anchor of the country’s most popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Many see the interview as the Trump campaign’s final appeal to young male voters. It also comes less than a week after Rogan’s popular interview with Trump, which attracted more than 42 million views.
Vance discussed several pressing issues in Rogan’s Austin, Texas, studio. These included his family ideals, free speech, Kamala Harris’ public performances, and conspiracy theories relating to the pharmaceutical industry. But the topic that caught the most attention was Donald Trump’s attempted assassination.
Trump was nearly killed on July 13, 2024, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Shots rang out while the former president was speaking on stage, and one bullet later struck him in one of his ears. A few seconds later, secret service agents surrounded him and whisked him off the venue.
Two days later, he announced Ohio Senator and Marine veteran JD Vance as his running mate for the November 5 presidential elections. According to Vance, the announcement was initially planned to happen on the day of the assassination.

JD Vance’s Experience of Trump’s Attempted Assassination
Vance, 40, said he had met Trump in his Mar-a-Lago property over his unveiling as his running mate. Trump had initially suggested announcing his Vance pick at the Butler, Pennsylvania rally. “He’s like, actually, wouldn’t it really set the world ablaze if we just made the decision today?” Vance recalled.
“And so why don’t you come up with me, and we’ll just do the announcement in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Vance reported Trump as suggesting. But the New York billionaire later changed his mind.
Trump ultimately reasoned that they needed some more time to prepare for the announcement. This means that Vance and his family would have also been in danger if they had proceeded with the plan. Also, at the time of the assassination, Vance had no secret service protection.
Vance disclosed to Rogan that he had returned to Ohio after the Mar-a-Lago meeting. He was mini-golfing with his kids when he heard about the assassination attempt. He also described his knee-jerk reaction afterward.
“I actually thought they had killed him because when you first see the video, he grabs his ear, and then he goes down,” Vance disclosed. The Vice Presidential candidate also stated that he went into a “Flight or Fight” mode after watching the video of the attempt on his phone.
“I grabbed my kids up, throw them in the car, go home, and load all my guns, and basically stand like a sentry in our front door,” he recalled. Vance spoke further about the incident, expressing worry about how easy it was for the shooter to get that close without detection. He also lamented the inability of law enforcement to arrive at a motive for the shooting.

Vance and Usha were in the same group for a project where they studied and discussed “social decline in white America.”
Aside from being a student, Usha was also an editor for the Yale Law Journal and the Yale Journal of Law and Technology. After graduation in 2014, Vance and Usha tied the knot. Usha is Indian by heritage. Her parents relocated to the United States and raised the family in San Diego, California. After marriage, Usha worked as a litigator in San Francisco and later in Washington, D.C.

Many Democrat big shots, such as Hillary Clinton as well as Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston, slammed Vance for the comments, which they believed were misogynistic. Kamala Harris has also resurrected outrage over the incident by including it in her presidential campaign ad.
