A Florida woman stole a deputy sheriff’s patrol car, which led authorities on a high-speed chase. Unfortunately, the car chase ended with her crashing head-on with oncoming traffic, killing herself and two others. Following the incident, officials identified the woman as Kendra Boone.
“This moron stole a police vehicle and killed two human beings,” Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods said at a press conference. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Boone caught the deputies’ attention on Thursday, February 1, 2024. A victim reported her for allegedly trying to steal an older woman’s keys in Silver Springs.
Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Witte responded to the report in his patrol SUV around 2 p.m. According to the Sheriff, Witte instructed Boone to head to the back of his vehicle as he briefly stepped out. Instead, she jumped into the passenger side window and into the driver’s seat, where the keys were still in the ignition, and sped off.
According to bodycam footage, Witte yells at her to stop as she begins driving away in his patrol car. He chases after the car and opens the driver’s door, attempting to pull her out. However, Boone hits the gas and exits the shopping center parking lot.

Afterward, Woods said, as more deputies arrived, Boone fled in the stolen car for several miles. The county sheriff claims she drove well over 100 miles per hour and erratically, attempting to evade deputies. However, things went south when she tried to pass a semi-truck.
Boone moved over to the shoulder while trying to overtake a semi-truck on the highway. When she merged back onto the road, she lost control of the car. As a result, Boone crossed over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic. In his statement, Woods said she collided head-on with a black pickup truck.
Unfortunately, when deputies reached the wreck, they found Boone and the three people who’d been in the pickup truck unresponsive. The deputies declared a 73-year-old man and 72-year-old woman in the pickup truck dead at the scene. However, they transported the third passenger to the hospital in critical condition.
While speaking at the conference, Woods said he and his deputies felt “sheer panic.” He noted they got scared when they learned someone had stolen a patrol car. “We know what’s in the vehicle. There’s a long rifle in there,” he said. “The moment she did that, she was a threat to human life, a threat for merely getting in that car.”

In addition, Woods claimed that Boone had a sprawling criminal history, including 13 felony charges. The carjacker recently got out of prison. In addition to several arrests around Florida, Marion County officials arrested Boone thrice between 2020 and 2021.
Also, the county convicted her for her last arrest and sentenced her in 2022 to two years. Furthermore, Orange County also convicted Boone in a separate class. However, a judge made the sentences concurrent instead of ordering her sentence to begin.
According to Woods, the judge gave her 30 months with credit for the time served in her other conviction. If the sentence had been consecutive, Boone would still be serving time. “If this person would have been in jail, I wouldn’t have two dead innocent people,” Woods said. “Her, I don’t give a crap about.”
