The Kansas City Police are actively investigating the deaths of three men found outside a Missouri home in early January. The unfortunate event happened two days after the men gathered at the residence to watch a Kansas City Chief Game.
On January 9, 2024, a woman alerted the authorities when she visited an apartment, searching for her fiance. Once she got there, she found her fiance dead instead. Subsequent investigation, however, revealed two additional dead bodies in the backyard.
On January 23, the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department spoke to media outlets about the incident. They stated, “There were no obvious signs of foul play at or near the crime scene.” That begs the question: “Who were the victims?”
Information from the police identified the victims as Ricky Johnson, 38, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and David Harrington, 37. Speaking to NBC News, a family member reported that these men had gathered at the home on January 7 to watch the City Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers alongside another house resident.

Johnson’s niece, Stephanie Walling, shared that the trio had been friends since high school. Notably, she expressed unfamiliarity with the house resident where they had gathered. While the connection between the victim and the home resident remains unclear, Kansas authorities are investigating the tragic deaths.
Walling expressed the situation’s impact: “It’s devastating because I just want to know what happened. I just want to know how things went down.” She continued, “Even if we don’t ever know the answer, it will always be something that kind of lingers in the back of my head because it’s not something I’d wish on anybody. And just thinking of him going through it, it hurts.”
On January 24, Adriana Juarez, Johnson’s former partner and the mother of their 4-year-old daughter, had an interview with NBC News. She emphasized the strong father-daughter connection between Johnson and their daughter.
Juarez further stated: “We are just really sad. It’s crazy, and I just can’t believe he’s gone, and my daughter will never see her father anymore.” Despite more than two weeks since the sad incident, Juarez revealed that she has not heard from or spoken to the authorities.

On the other hand, Lorie Kruse, Harrington’s partner, gave details about his character; she described him as “selfless” and her “ride or die” for the past 17 years. Still describing his selfless acts, she stated, “He saved a stranger and his dog’s lives on the way to work.”
“He got up in the middle of the night to help a friend; that car broke down an hour away,” she added. “He was a solid guy with a ton of selfless love.” In a statement to NBC News, she wrote, “He was smart, very funny, gentle and kind.”
“He was helping raise my two kids. He truly loved us, no doubt.” Additionally, Kruse noted Harrington’s drug-free lifestyle, stating, “He didn’t do drugs and was strong about not doing them.” Kruse shared the ongoing struggle her family faces, saying, “Our house is empty without him, and our hearts are crushed.”
She added, “My kids and I don’t understand how he…of all people, would be mixed up in this mystery. He made so many future promises to us and my children.” The mystery surrounding the incident thickens as there have been no arrests in connection with the men’s deaths.
However, the resident of the home where they found the bodies has been cooperative with the police. The lack of answers and several questions surrounding the case made Walling raise awareness through a GoFundMe for Johnson’s funeral.
