The aftermath of the recent CNN presidential debates has ushered President Joe Biden into the most challenging phase of his re-election campaign bid. Pressure has been mounting on the commander-in-chief to step down as the Democratic Party candidate for the elections.
Recently, a prominent Democrat supporter, Abigail Disney, granddaughter of the famous Walt Disney, has threatened to withdraw her support if he doesn’t.
Here’s What She Had to Say
Abigail Disney, the Walt Disney heiress, is a prominent liberal voter and megadonor. Considering his abysmal performance at the last presidential debates, she is worried about Biden’s chances at the elections.
Speaking with the press, she not only registered her concern about his capacity to face Donald Trump at the polls but also voiced worry over his ability to lead the country if he clinches re-election.
The Stakes Are Far Too High
In her session with the press, Disney made a threat that would unsettle the Democratic Party and Biden’s campaign team. “I intend to stop any contributions to the party unless and until they replace Biden at the top of the ticket,” she warned.
“This is realism, not disrespect. Biden is a good man and has served his country admirably, but the stakes are far too high,” she reasoned.
She Was Certain of a Biden Defeat
Disney’s insistence that Biden should pull out of the race stems from a strong belief that he won’t survive a face-off with Donald Trump. As a result, she has called on the Democratic Party to prevail on Biden’s withdrawal.
“If Biden does not step down, the Democrats will lose. Of that, I am absolutely certain,” she predicted. “The consequences for the loss will be genuinely dire,” she added.
Disney’s Strong Record of Democrat Support
Of course, the support of someone of Abigail Disney’s caliber is a prized asset to any political movement. True to expectations, Disney has contributed greatly to the Democratic cause.
According to reports, she has donated over $2 million to federal Democratic candidates and groups since 1992. This election season, she has also donated $63,000 to Democratic election groups.

She Played a Major Role in the 2020 Elections
During the 2020 election cycle, when Joe Biden first defeated Trump, Disney was a major player. Apart from Joe Biden’s re-election bid, she spent about $343,000 supporting Democratic candidates in their campaigns.
In particular, she donated $10,000 to Sen. Raphael Warnock. At the time, Warnock was locked in an all-important Georgia senate run-off that would flip the Republican majority at the Senate.
She Hasn’t Donated to the Biden Campaign in 2024
A member of Biden’s campaign has recently admitted to journalists that Disney has kept by her word so far. “She has not donated to our campaign this cycle,” the official told the press.
This is a worrying sign for the Democrat Party as it could trigger a ripple effect of donor apathy. The party is battling the effects of Biden’s disastrous debate performance. The President battled with confusion and various instances of cognitive decline during the event.
Disney Endorses Kamala Harris
The first question on most minds after Disney’s statement had to be, “If not Biden, then who?” The billionaire business owner didn’t keep her audience in suspense for too long. She believes Kamala Harris can do a better job at the polls.
“We have an excellent Vice President,” she told the press during the media session. She called on other Democrats to support Harris as a Biden replacement.
Can Democrats Tolerate Harris’s Shortcomings?
Many Democrats haven’t exactly fallen in love with Harris during Biden’s three-plus years at the saddle.
However, Disney has called on Democrats to forgive her shortcomings. “If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings, even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s…If Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she declared.

Other Donors Want Biden to Step Down
Since the election debates, President Biden has made moves to reassure his party of his electability. One of these attempts is an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Friday, July 5, 2024.
Despite this, Democratic donors still doubt his chances. One of them is Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings, who has continued to call on the President to step down. Other donors in this category are Whitney Tilson and PayPal CEO Bill Harris.
Other Skeptical Donors
Unfortunately for Biden, the list of donors withdrawing their support for his re-election keeps growing. Others on the list are Billionaire Rick Caruso and Damon Lindelof, the famous producer and co-creator of the blockbuster movie series “Lost.”
In addition to withdrawing his sponsorship, Lindelof has also called on other Democratic donors to do the same till Biden resigns from the race.
Biden is Sticking to His Guns
Despite the mounting opposition to his re-election bid, Biden has announced that he will go ahead to contest.
On Monday, July 8, 2024, Joe Biden released a press statement stating that he is “committed to staying in this race.” In the statement, he also appealed to Democrats to keep faith in him. “I wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024,” he assured.
