You’d most likely know Shiloh Jolie-Pitt as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter. But did you know that she recently initiated a process to legally change her name on her 18th birthday in May? As it stands, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s hearing will be delayed!
Why, you ask? The teenager, who was aiming to remove “Pitt” from her surname, encountered this setback because the necessary background check was incomplete in time for the first hearing. Her legal representative, Peter Levine, shared that the problem stems from the court’s inability to finalize the background check.
Newsflash: Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s hearing has been postponed to August 19. How did she get here? Here’s what we know.
Shiloh Jolie’s Hearing and Name Change Process
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt recently published an announcement in the Los Angeles Times, declaring her intentions of changing her name to simply “Shiloh Jolie.” According to California law, such announcements must be published in a newspaper for a month before a judge can approve the petition.

Once published, the request appears in the legal notice section of the paper. Angelina Jolie, 48, and Brad Pitt, 60, share six children: Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Pax, 20, Shiloh, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. According to a source close to the family, Brad Pitt has “virtually no contact” with his adult kids.
In fact, his interactions with the younger ones have reduced due to his busy schedule. The source further revealed that Angelina Jolie truly has primary custody of the kids, and the couple’s custody agreement permits Pitt visitation rights with the younger ones.
Now, back to Shiloh! While we are unsure of the reason behind her decision, one would most likely think it’s because of the situation of things with her dad regarding contact!
What Was Brad Pitt’s Reactions to Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s Name Change Petition
A source revealed that a week after Shiloh Jolie-Pitt filed her petition, Brad Pitt became upset. The same source revealed that the situation has been a difficult reminder for Pitt of his estrangement from his kids.

Despite loving and longing for them, the reality weighs heavily on him. Although Brad Pitt is happy in his new relationship with Ines de Ramon, the distance from his children is still a huge burden.
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s Hearing Delayed Due to Clerical Error
As mentioned earlier, individuals looking to change their names must undergo a background check conducted by the court clerk. Sadly, due to a clerical mistake, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s name change hearing has been postponed to next month. When asked for a comment, the Los Angeles Superior Court did not quickly respond.
If you are wondering what Angelina Jolie thinks about the whole situation, just know she does not have a say in her daughter’s official request to drop her father’s name. A source revealed that Shiloh Jolie-Pitt hired her lawyer and paid for it herself.
Notably, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt isn’t the first to drop Pitt from her last name; Zahara was! Zahara introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie during an induction ceremony event after she joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Vivienne also followed her sister’s footsteps more recently when she and Angelina Jolie co-produced the Broadway production of “The Outsiders.” There, Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie.
Why Is Shiloh Jolie Pitt’s Name Change Hearing a Big Deal?
Contrary to her sisters, Shiloh Jolie Pitt’s name change has been trending because, unlike them, she is the first looking to make the change official. Like Shiloh, Angelina Jolie was originally born Angelina Jolie Voight.
However, after a long estrangement from her father, she petitioned the court to legally drop Voight from her name. That request was granted in 2002. It almost feels like history repeating itself with Shiloh and her father’s case.
