On his March 12, 2024, edition of The Daily Wire’s “The Ben Shapiro Show,” Ben Shapiro hopped into the ongoing debate regarding Social Security benefits. On retirement in the U.S., he said people who want to hang it up professionally at age 65 are off their rocker, arguing the threshold should be raised.
The famous speaker noted that the notion that the retirement age should remain at 65 is absurd. Shapiro backed up his claim by stating that the age limit is ridiculous, especially since President Joe Biden is running for reelection at 81.
Ben Shapiro Says Joe Biden Should Not Be Running for President
“No one in the United States should be retiring at 65 years old,” Shapiro asserted during his March 12 show. “Frankly, I think retirement itself is a stupid idea unless you have some sort of health problem.”
“And let’s be real about this,” he continued. “It’s insane that we haven’t raised the retirement age in the United States.” Shapiro added, “It’s crazy; If that were the case, Joe Biden should not be running for president. OK? Joe Biden is 81 years old.”
The renowned lawyer and columnist added, “The retirement age in the United States, at which you start to receive Social Security and are eligible for Medicare, is 65.”
“Joe Biden has technically been eligible for Social Security and Medicare for 16 years,” Shapiro added. “And he wants to continue in office until he is 86, 19 years past the age at which he would be eligible for retirement.”

He Gives Reason Why Retirement Age Should Be Raised
Ben Shapiro maintains that retirement is a double standard and should be scrapped. He argued that no one in the United States should retire at 65 unless they have some health problem.
“No one in the United States should be retiring at 65 years old,” Shapiro said. “Frankly, I think retirement itself is a stupid idea unless you have some sort of health problem.” He continued, “Everybody that I know who is elderly, who has retired, is dead within five years.”
“And if you talk to people who are elderly, they lose their purpose in life by losing their job, and they stop working,” he noted. “Things go to hell in a handbasket real quick.”
He Compared the U.S. Life Expectancy When Franklin Roosevelt Established 65years As the Retirement Age to Now
During his show, Ben Shapiro compared the life expectancy from when they established the retirement age to now. He noted that people tend to live longer nowadays.
“But put all of that aside, just on a fiscal and logical level,” he said. “When Franklin Delano Roosevelt established 65 as the retirement age, the average life expectancy in the United States was 63 years old.” However, he noted, “Today, the average life expectancy in the United States is close to 80.”
“It’s insane that you believe that you should be able to work from the time that you are essentially 20 to the time that you are 65,” he said. “Which is 45 years pay in, and then you’ll receive Social Security benefits sufficient to support you and your family, you and your wife or whatever, for, like, another 20 years.”
Ben Shapiro Defends Raising Retirement Age to 68 Amid Trump’s Comment on Social Security and Medicare
Ben Shapiro defended raising the U.S. retirement age in light of Donald Trump’s suggestion that he would cut Social Security and Medicare. He took President Biden to task over his stance on retirement entitlements.
Former president Donald Trump faced criticism for suggesting he would slash Social Security and Medicare funding to pay for tax cuts. However, President Biden declared that federal funds for retirement benefits would remain protected if he got elected for a second term.

A Republican Spokesperson Rebuffed Donald Trump’s Claim on Social Security and Medicare Cut
A spokesperson rebuffed the claims following Trump’s abrasive comments about slashing social security and Medicare. A representative for the presumptive Republican presidential candidate walked back these remarks, which could potentially be a red flag for older voters.
“Former President Trump delivered on his promise to protect Social Security and Medicare in his first term,” the spokesperson said. “And he will continue to strongly protect Social Security and Medicare in his second term.”
