A tragic incident recently happened in Kansas City, Missouri, after the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory. During the victory parade, the city became chaotic. During the incident, one person lost their life, and an additional 21 people suffered gunshot injuries due to the shooting that happened around 2 p.m. CT on February 14, 2024.
The aftermath was even worse, revealing eight individuals facing “immediately life-threatening” injuries, seven battling with life-threatening injuries, and six others sustaining minor injuries, according to Kansas City Fire Chief Ross Grundyson.
They detained three individuals, although authorities have yet to identify them as suspects. The victim who lost their life during the incident was identified by her family as Lisa Lopez-Galvan. Galvan was a respected DJ associated with Kansas City, Missouri’s radio station KKFI 901.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, KKFI stated, “It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know. Lisa Lopez-Galvan, host of Taste of Tejano, lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chief’s rally.” While Galvan’s identity is out to the public, the police have yet to disclose other victims publicly.

Children’s Mercy Hospital reported that it is currently attending to 12 victims, with the majority being children suffering from gunshot wounds. In response, Kansas City police detained three individuals near a garage west of Union Station.
Police Chief Stacey Graves noted an ongoing investigation to determine if bystanders had subdued one of the detained individuals. Preliminary findings from a thorough investigation suggest that the shooting in Kansas City was criminal rather than terrorism. Three law enforcement officials familiar with the incident confirmed the findings.
Authorities urged the public to evacuate the area immediately to facilitate prompt medical assistance for the victims. Notably, the tragedy happened during a joyous gathering of thousands in downtown Kansas City. They convened for the celebratory parade and rally at Union Station after Sunday’s Chiefs’ Super Bowl win.
Amidst the chaos, the police confirmed the safety of all Chiefs players, coaches, staff members, and their families. A senior White House official noted that the Biden administration is “closely monitoring” the situation in Kansas City.

Moreover, the official emphasized that federal law enforcement is present to support local authorities during this challenging time. Drue Tranquill, a linebacker for the Chiefs, called on people to join him in praying for the victims. He denounced the shooting as a “heinous act.”
On X, formerly Twitter, Tranquill specifically asked for strength for doctors and first responders as they navigate the aftermath of the shooting. He noted the importance of steady hands and prayed for the complete healing of all those affected. Similarly, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared on X that he is “Praying for Kansas City.”
Authorities also noted that Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, who was at the celebration, also left safely. The collective prayers and support extend to all those affected by this event. Joining together, let’s be hopeful for a complete recovery of those impacted by this unfortunate incident.
