A bad joke at Donald Trump’s rally has delivered a big boost for Kamala Harris a few days before the elections. A number of celebrities have pitched their tent with the Vice President’s campaign bid after a Trump rally comedian made racist remarks about Puerto Rico. Some of the notable names include Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez.
It appears that Kamala Harris’ campaign has scored a major point with the presidential elections around the corner. Recently, the campaign received the endorsement of notable public figures who could sway millions of votes for the former California senator. Harris owes their support largely to racist remarks made in Donald Trump’s recently held New York rally.
During Trump’s rally at the Maddison Square Garden, popular comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, a popular stand-up comic, referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating Island of Garbage.” This statement drew anger from many sections of the public including many influential figures who view them as racist and crude.
In the words of the comedian, whose stage name is Kill Tony, “There’s a lot going on. I don’t know if you know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now.” Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin, all Puerto Rican stars, didn’t find the statement funny.

These three celebrities have not only condemned the remarks but also pledged their support for the current Vice President. Bad Bunny made his decision known via a video he shared on his Instagram account. The video contained Harris’ promise to revitalize Puerto Rico’s economy. She also took shots at Trump, stating, “There is so much at stake in this election.”
Bad Bunny also emphasized a quote Harris made in the video criticizing Trump’s treatment of Puerto Rico during his presidency. “I will never forget what Donald Trump did and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and competent leader,” the Democratic candidate stated.
“He abandoned the island, tried to block aid after back-to-back devastating hurricanes, and offered nothing more than paper towels and insults,” Harris alleged. Lopez also shared the same video on her Instagram account, along with a flag of the island. Ricky Martin responded to Lopez’s video with “I remember.”
Martin also posted a video of Hinchcliffe’s joke on his Instagram account. He accompanied the video with a short note he wrote in Spanish that read, “This is what they think of us. Vote for @kamalaharris.”
What’s the Comparison Between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump’s Rally Attendance Numbers?
Both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris understand the significance of rallies as they near the much-anticipated elections. In the weeks leading up to the polls, both have held significant rallies in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
Both candidates have also taken shots at each other over their rallies. During their debate in Philadelphia, Harris called Trump’s rallies boring. She said, “What you will notice is people leaving early out of exhaustion and boredom.” Trump fired back by claiming that Harris pays people to attend her rallies.
Trump has repeatedly boasted of bigger rally attendance than Harris. “We have the biggest rallies, the most incredible rallies in the history of politics,” he stated. But what do the facts say?
According to the Harvard Kennedy School Ash Center, the average attendance for 28 of Trump’s rallies in 2024 is 5,600. The center also placed the average attendance for 6 of Kamala Harris’ rallies since she became the presumptive Democratic nominee at 13,400.
What’s the Comparison Between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump’s Rally?
Trump and Harris have also held rallies at their home bases in New York and Washington, D.C. Talking about their home stretch rallies, Donald Trump shocked Democrats with a massive rally at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Few people expected the former president to achieve such a feat in a notoriously blue state.
According to reports, Trump filled the venue and had thousands of people outside the 19,500-capacity auditorium. According to one of the Trump campaign spokespersons who quoted an undisclosed news report, “the number of people outside could have filled up a second Maddison Square Garden easily.”
On the other hand, Kamala Harris recorded success at her Washington, D.C. rally at the Ellipse. Reports show that about 75,000 people attended the rally, which sold out the venue. The rally even reportedly surpassed the crowd that attended Trump’s controversial January 6 speech.
