Kristi Noem, the Governor of South Dakota, believes that the US president’s dog should be killed. This opinion came after she had killed her family’s 14-month-old dog, Cricket. In her new memoir, Noem said she killed Cricket because it killed a neighbor’s chickens.
Also, she noted that the dog seemed dangerous, especially when it came in contact with humans. She also concluded that the dog was worthless when it comes to hunting. Well, Noem might not be in the wrong for killing her family’s dog; South Dakota’s law permits that.
The law states, “Any person owning, keeping, or harboring a dog that chases, worries, injures, or kills any poultry or domestic animal is guilty of a class two misdemeanor and is liable for damages to the owner thereof for any injury caused by the dog to any such poultry or animal.”
What Would I Do if I Were President?
CNN reported that in Gov Noem’s book “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong With Politics and How We Move America Forward,” she wrote a long list of things she’d love to do if she becomes president. However, one major thing she’d love to do is kill President Biden’s German shepherd, Commander.
Democrats and other individuals perceived the statement as rude and have made different remarks. However, the Republican is determined not to go back on her words. Gov Kristi Noem had an interview with CBS where she explained her reason for wanting President Biden’s dog killed.

“Joe Biden’s dog has attacked 24 Secret Service people, and almost half of the attacked victims required medical attention,” she said. “So, how many people are enough people to be attacked and dangerously hurt before you make a decision on a dog and what to do with it?”
Before she could finish her explanation, the interviewer clarified that Biden’s dog no longer lives in the White House; it now stays in Delaware. Also, the interviewer asked Noem if the dog should be shot just because it attacked some workers. To that, Noem said, “That’s what the president should be accountable to.”
Noem Shares More on What She’d Do if She Becomes President
Gov Kristi Noem imagined becoming president and sending Commander to meet his maker. She said she’d tell Biden’s dog, Commander, to say hello to Cricket when it arrives. Furthermore, Noem said that killing Cricket was her way of protecting her children. She also claimed the decision was a difficult one to make.
She said her reason for telling the story was to let people know that she doesn’t hand over her responsibilities to others and does what needs to be done. This remark looks like it was targeted at the president, who didn’t take full responsibility for the harm his dog caused. By full responsibility, Noem meant shooting the dog.
The White House Responds to Gov Noem’s Comment
During a conference, the White House responded to Noem’s comment that President Biden’s dog faces the same fate as her family dog, Cricket. White House secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “We learned last week, obviously like all of you, in Noem’s book that she killed her dog.”
“You heard me say that was very, very sad. We find her comments disturbing. We find them absurd,” Jean-Pierre added. “This is a country that loves dogs. And you have a leader talking about putting dogs down— killing them.”
“That’s a disturbing statement to say,” she added. The secretary also advised that Noem should stop digging herself in a hole. Aside from the secretary, a source close to President Biden stated that the president feels “awful” about the incidents.
According to the source, the President had to make a joke at a New York fundraiser to ease the air. The president said, “As Harry Truman said, ‘You’re president. If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.’ I got one, and he bit a Secret Service agent, so I don’t know.”
