The police have taken a 29-year-old man into custody on suspicion of killing five people, including three children. However, they haven’t laid any charges yet. According to a report, the officials pulled the victims dead from a burning car in Manitoba, Canada.
The unidentified man is allegedly guilty of a string of murders that occurred the same day across rural communities. However, the officials have yet to identify the victims publicly. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, they received a hit-and-run report near Carman, southwest of Winnipeg.
The reported hit-and-run was in Manitoba at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2024. After arriving at the scene, officials found a woman in a nearby ditch. Unfortunately, the emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Then, at 10 a.m., the RCMP received a report of a car fire about 40 miles north. The reported car fire was in the rural municipality of Cartier. However, a witness reportedly pulled the bodies of three children from the burning car while officers were en route.

“As officers were going to the scene, a witness was able to pull three young children from a burning vehicle,” Inspector Tim Arseneault of RCMP major crime services said at a news conference. Tragically, the officers declared all three children deceased on the scene.
Also, the officials arrested the suspect at the scene of the burning car. Afterward, they found the body of a fifth victim, another woman, at a property in the rural town of Carman. “As a parent, I simply can’t imagine the enormity of your loss,” Arseneault said.
“The community of Carman and surrounding areas will also be grieving,” he added. “As they have lost some of their youngest residents in such a tragic way.” During the conference, the RCMP revealed the deaths happened at three different locations.
The officials claim it happened on Highway 3 between Carman and Winkler and Highway 248 north of Provincial Road 424. In addition, they claim it happened in a home in Carman, Man., which is about 75 kilometers southwest of Winnipeg.

After the conference, Trent Lepine, a resident, said he was driving his daughter to skating lessons around 9:20 a.m. that morning. He claimed he saw what looked like a broken-down vehicle on the road. However, about an hour later, on his way home, he noticed a roadblock.
Lepine said the vehicle wasn’t on fire when he first passed and didn’t pay much attention to it. “I didn’t stop because, yeah, I had my daughter with me,” Lepine said. “But also, like I said, we always see broken down vehicles. People always pull off to the side.”
He said that as a parent, he found the news “pretty sad.” “It’s shocking, especially in a small town like this,” Lepine said. The police haven’t provided the suspect’s name or any further details. However, Arseneault said the RCMP believes he and the victims knew each other.
Furthermore, Arseneault said the police believe the people found dead are all from the Carman area. “It’s absolutely horrific. I cannot believe it,” Carman Mayor Brent Owen said. “It’s kind of mind-numbing to realize that something like this could happen in this community.”
