Fabric trends are one aspect of interior design that has never remained the same. Every year, as society continues to evolve, so do our tastes. We are always looking to improve the appearance and feel of our sofas, pillows, and curtains. 2024 is no different.
2024 has served us with yet another round of fresh and exciting fabric ideas. Whether you are a minimalist, maximalist, or a hybrid, you will be spoiled for choice. These trends are sure to make our homes more stylish and attractive. Let’s dig in.
What Decor Is Popular Now?
Striped prints have resurfaced with more convincing charm and versatility. One element that striped prints add to your home is order. Your indoor space will look like a well-thought-out piece of art.
Whether it’s vertical, horizontal, or diagonal prints, they all deliver. So, the choice is yours to make. The vertical ones will make your room look taller, while the horizontal prints will provide a wider look. The diagonal prints will give the eyes a bit of both perspective.
Debbie Matthews, an interior design guru, wants us to pay attention to the fabric choice. That’s because they can also send a crucial message. “Stripes look casual on cotton and linen or dressy if introduced on a silk fabric,” she explained.
Floral fabrics are one of the in-vogue fabric trends in 2024. These fabrics are the perfect choice for those looking to give their rooms that natural look. Flowers are charming, too. That’s why floral prints keep coming back to prominence. Whether large, small, bright, bold, large, or muted, they are timeless and super-appealing.
Historic prints have also enjoyed a resurgence in 2024. “I am seeing lots of historic prints—like florals, damasks, and medallions—being brought back from the archives and recolored,” said Matthews.
These blast-from-the-past prints feature some iconic patterns such as tweeds and velvets. But this time, these heritage prints have been improved to meet the demands of modern sensibilities.
Cost has also played a role in 2024’s trending fabrics. Interior design experts say many customers have been clamoring for “performance fabrics that are durable and stain resistant.”

The Green Revolution and Story-Telling
2024 has also brought to the spotlight more recent and purpose-driven fabric trends. One of these is the blue and green fabrics with a touch of brown. This fabric trend reflects the modern desire to identify with our natural environments.
It’s also a symbol of our commitment to preserving the climate. Their effect on any indoor space is nothing short of comforting and relaxing. According to Matthews, versatility is a major factor in the growing popularity of this fabric trend.
“Without a doubt, green is reigning supreme in multiple shades, from a soft sage green to rich, deep forest and emerald green. The beauty of green is that it pairs well with so many other colors,” she disclosed.
Matthews has also revealed that environmentally sustainable materials are gaining popularity in 2024. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, given the heightened awareness about the impact of human choices on the environment.
“People are asking for natural fabrics like cotton, linen, wool, and hemp as well as textured fabrics like mohair, boucle, and cut velvet,” she said. But that’s not all. Technological advancements have fuelled the production of more environmentally-friendly choices such as recycled materials and bio-based fabrics.
A prominent example of such bio-based products is plant-based vegan leather or faux leather. The popular raw materials for this leather include apple peels, pineapple peels, and cactus cork. Also, there are the story-telling designs.
Designers are now adding some sophistication to their fabrics by infusing storytelling. “I think consumers are more interested in fabrics that they know to tell a story—whether that’s with a design that has been created and hand-painted, or that the fabric has been sourced from authentic textile mills, with the highest quality yarn,” says an interior design expert.
You can spot these fabrics by watching out for certain colors. Colors such as red, blue, yellow, brown, and green are some of the major storytellers. These fabrics also feature unique embroidery techniques like chain stitches and crewelwork.
What Is Modern Style Interior Design?
Modern-style interior designs are aesthetic expressions that emerged during the early to mid-twentieth century. These designs are usually minimalist and feature a monochromatic color palette, natural materials, clean lines, and natural light.
Modern styles stemmed from a revolt against the mostly maximalist Victorian designs. They are more functional and influenced by twentieth-century technological advances. So, expect to see lots of glass and steel. Modern design relies heavily on neutral colors such as white, gray, beige, and black.

What Is Timeless Interior Design?
Some designs have stood the test of time and trends. These are timeless interior designs. They include the novelty print, faux-velour sofas of the seventies, the wall stencils, and string curtains of the nineties.
Timeless interior designs are also characterized by their durability. Nowadays, manufacturers race against time to produce in-vogue interior design pieces, such as fabric materials that align with emerging fabric trends. In the rush, many tend to sacrifice longevity. But the timeless pieces never suffer from this disadvantage.
How Many Styles of Interior Design Are There?
If you’ve been searching for various interior design styles, there’s good news for you. There are several dozen of them. This means you are spoiled for choice and can find the one that appeals to your taste and personality.
They include modern, contemporary, minimalist, maximalist, farmhouse, traditional, rustic, Scandinavian, boho, and eclectic design styles. Each design has its flavor and provides a unique experience for your room. They also allow unlimited creativity and innovation that provides nonstop excitement.
